Detailed Solution

The above statement is True.
Three administrative provinces were developed by the British government, which were called 'Presidencies'. Each had its capital, namely Bombay, Madras and Calcutta. They were the main hubs of the economic movements and commerce of the English East India Company.
All three were formerly small fishing and weaving communities. Due to the commercial activity of the English East India Company, they developed into significant trading hubs. There was a decline in several old towns in the 18th century. New settlements soon appeared in their place and started to grow. As the Mughals' influence waned over time, it led to the eclipse of several cities under their control.
Bombay, Madras and Calcutta were called the Presidency cities.
