Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
Although the textile exports from Britain affected the Indian weavers and the production of Indian textiles, the handloom industries did not stop in India. However, the machines could produce many fabrics but could not make fabrics of intricate design or traditional patterns. These handwoven clothes were famous among the rich and the middle class. Hence, Sholapur in Maharastra and  Madura in Southern India emerged as new centres of weaving in the 19th century. Moreover, the impetus for handlooms was provided during the freedom struggle. Gandhi urged the people to boycott British cloth and use Khadi.
Hence, handloom weavings did not completely decline in India.
