Initially, the steam engine was slow to be accepted by industries. James Watt invented the steam engine in 1781 and patented the new engine. His industrialist friend, Mathew Boulton, manufactured the new model. But he could not find buyers for his product. Steam engines were used only in the cotton and wool industries, mining, canal and iron. There was hesitancy in using steam engines. It was not used in other industries till the later centuries.
