Mirabai was a Rajput princess. She got married into the royal family of the Mewar.
She was an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna and became a disciple of Saint Ravidas, who was an "untouchable". She wrote bhajans and criticised norms of social orders openly. Her songs got popular in Rajasthan and Gujrat. Mirabai also attended devotional gatherings with commoners. However, being a woman of royalty, her family tried to force her to follow the norms of shame and decorum of royal life. She grew tired of all the restrictions and wanted to spend her life devoted to Krishna. She ends up leaving Rana's palace.
