On November 11, 1918, Allied and German leaders signed the armistice that ended World War I. German capitulation and the signing of a truce were eventually brought about by the defeat of the Spring Offensive and the loss of allies in the middle to late 1918. In a matter of days, the Soviets captured Berlin. The German military forces unconditionally submitted on May 7 in the west and May 9 in the east. The conclusion of World War I occurred at 11:00 am on the same day.
