But research has shown that a significant reason why Muslim girls are not sent to school or why they drop out of school after some years is poverty in the Muslim community. In Kerala, for example, the distance between the school and the houses was reduced, government bus services assisted teachers in reaching schools in remote rural areas, and more than 60% of these teachers were female. So, poverty, not religion, is the cause of the absence of Muslim girls from schools.
