Detailed Solution

The statement is true.
Sanskrit, Persian, and other Indian and European languages were Rammohun Roy's strong suits. Through his publications, he attempted to demonstrate that any ancient scriptures did not support the practice of burning widows. British authorities started criticising Indian traditions and rituals in the early nineteenth century. Therefore, they were more than happy to pay attention to Rammohun, who was thought to be a learned man. As a result, Sati was forbidden in 1829. Similarly, Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar suggested that widows could remarry using ancient texts. British authorities followed his recommendation, establishing a statute allowing widow remarriage in 1856.
Hence, ancient texts' knowledge helped the reformers promote new laws.
