Detailed Solution

The above statement is True.
The Constitution of India recognises Hindi as an official language of India and provides for its promotion. However, it also safeguards other Indian languages as Hindi is spoken by only 40 percent of the country’s population. It recognizes 22 Indian languages, including Hindi, as Scheduled Languages. While the Constitution provides for the promotion of Hindi as an official policy, it does not mean that the Central Government can impose Hindi on states which do not speak the language. Infact, the political leaders also accomodated the non-Hindi speaking states by adopting English as an official language in the Constitution.
