Detailed Solution

The given statement is true. Indian secularism is different from the secularism practised in western countries. In India, the state can intervene in religion but cannot favour any particular religion. The state must treat all religions equally, and if any practices are oppressive to some group of people of a particular religion, it can intervene to legally abolish such practices. For example, the state intervenes in the religious practices of the Hindu religion to abolish the evil practice of untouchability. The Indian constitution gives the power to the state to intervene with such oppressive religious practices. The state does not interfere with the religious practices of the individuals but keeps itself away from all religious practices.
