In Coelenterates, digestion takes place inside as well as outside the body. Extracellular digestion takes place in the gastrovascular cavity where digestive enzymes from cells bordering the cavity are poured onto the food for partial digestion. Then the smaller particles of the partially digested food are engulfed by vacuoles of the digestive cells for intracellular digestion.
