Power sharing is considered one of the best ways to reduce ethnic conflicts in a democratic country. It can be better understood with the example of Belgium and Sri Lanka. Both these countries have complicated ethnic compositions where different communities speak different languages. The Belgian government decided to reduce its conflicts by amending its constitution four times to share power among diverse communities. But the Sri Lankan government did not give space for fair power sharing, which resulted in violent killings and a civil war ending in 2009. Hence, the Belgium example of power sharing shows that it can be the best way to reduce the chances of a conflict.
