Dhangars of Maharashtra passed through Konkan on their move. The Dhangars began moving west in October after harvesting their bajra. They arrived in Konkan, which had a thriving agricultural economy. The local Konkani farmers welcomed the shepherds here. Dhangar flocks fed on the stubble and manured the fields. The shepherds brought rice supplies from the Konkani peasants back to the plateau, where food was limited. When the monsoon arrived, the Dhangars took their flocks out of the Konkan and the coastal regions and settled back on the dry plateau.
