They dominated certain products because they were only interested in those which generated significant revenue. They were promoting cash crops like coffee and tea. In addition, they were also promoting indigo since all these are cash crops and get significant revenue. Europeans were encouraging and demanding the farmers of India to grow such crops so that Europeans could make more profit. However, Indian farmers were not benefited from growing this kind of crop. To promote their plantation, Europeans started to levy more tax on other crops, which became very difficult for an average farmer who grows crops of his choice on his farm.
