There was a decade in India full of movements against the oppressive measures of the British colonial power. In 1930, Gandhiji made 11 demands to Viceroy Irwin and gave him a deadline to accept these demands. Otherwise, he would launch the Civil Disobedience Movement. Consequently, Gandhiji started the Dandi March or Salt Satyagraha on 12 March 1930 to break the salt law. Thus he organised a campaign on the national level to abolish the salt law, marking the beginning of the Civil disobedience Movement. Hence, it was followed by protests against the British on a large scale by peasants, women, industrialists and the working class. They organised nationwide demonstrations, boycotted foreign clothes, and picked liquor shops, and village officials resigned.
