In addition, grains used to be stored at grams by landlords and talukdars and were sold at a high price. Moreover, landlords and talukdars were not given payments to peasants and workers so that they could buy the grains. Hence the peasants captured the hoards of grain, and the landlords' houses were demolished. However, the peasants in Awadh revolted against this oppression, led by Baba Ramchandra. Thus the peasant movement demanded the abolition of begar, revenue reduction, and a social boycott of oppressive landlords.
