Thus Gandhiji initiated a mass non-violent civil disobedience against this unjust law. People organised rallies, hartals and peaceful processions against the Rowlatt act. Unfortunately, thousands of people were killed when they gathered for a meeting on the arrest of Dr Saifuddin Kitchlu and Satyapal under the Rowlatt Act in Jallianwala Bagh. People were killed by firing only on suspicion of public protest against the Rowlatt Act.
