"NREGA" stands for the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
The Ministry of Rural Development of the Government of India passed this act in 2005. It provides 100 days of paid employment to every rural home whose adult members agree to conduct unskilled manual labour over the fiscal year. This would apply to all villages within the district. The NREGA (National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) was renamed MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005) on October 2, 2009, by amending the NREGA 2005 to convert the vocabulary of the act from NREGA to MGNREGA. This act helped in providing employment as well as reducing poverty.
