When12 ohm resistance is not connected in parallel to S than we can write,

R=Sl1100l1l1=40cmR=S4060=23S

Now when 12 Ω is connected in parallel to S, then the effective resistance can be written as

1S1=1S+112=12+512SS1=12S(12+5)

R=Sl100ll=64cm

 i.e. R=12S(12+S)×6436=16912S12+S _(II) 

From the above equations

23S=12S12+S169S=20 Ω and R=23×20=403Ω
