Citadel was the fortified area of the early cities  Indus Valley civilisation. The settlements of the Indus Valley are divided into two parts: the citadel (built at higher elevations) and the lower city. The citadel was walled and separated from the lower city. Important buildings were erected in the citadel part of the city, such as public baths, granaries and workshops.
