Concept- Clean drinking water is also referred to as potable water. The human body is made up of 78% water. Water is very important to the human body. Water contains a lot of minerals, which are needed by the human body.
Clean drinking water can be obtained from ground and surface sources. They are healthy and do not cause any health problems.Water that is used for drinking must contain sodium, potassium, and essential minerals. This water that can be drunk by a person is known as drinking water or potable water.
Non-potable water cannot be drunk because it is collected directly from water bodies such as lakes, rivers and untested ground wells. Non-potable water should go through certain quality checks and filtration before it can be converted into potable water. Non-potable water is very unhealthy for us. They can cause many diseases to people. Some of the diseases that are caused by consuming non-potable water are diarrhoea, cholera, jaundice, dysentery, typhoid and polio.
Hence, clean drinking water is called potable water.
