Detailed Solution

The correct answer is (b) Automobiles

CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) is mainly methane compressed to high pressure (about 200–250 bar) and used as a clean fuel in cars, buses, auto-rickshaws and light commercial vehicles. It burns more cleanly than petrol or diesel, producing less smoke, CO₂, CO, NOₓ and particulate matter, so it helps reduce air pollution in cities. CNG engines also make less carbon deposits and the fuel is often cost-effective for daily transport.

Why not the others?

  • Aeroplanes: use aviation turbine fuel (ATF/jet fuel), a kerosene fraction—not CNG.
  • Ships: generally use marine diesel or heavy fuel oil; some modern vessels try LNG, but CNG is uncommon.
  • Trains: mostly electric or diesel; a few trials used CNG, but it is not the common fuel.
