Detailed Solution

Cocoon is defined as a covering of silky threads on larvae of moths or insects.
Silk is a natural fibre that is obtained from silkworms. A silkworm secretes fine filaments from the two glands that are present on its head. They deposit the filaments around their bodies, completely covering themselves. These filaments are made of proteins and harden when exposed to the air. This covering is known as a cocoon. Cocoon is spun of silky threads around the larvae of many insects or worms. The cocoons of silkworms are boiled or kept under sunlight so that the outer covering of silk fibres will get separated from them and used for making silk fabric. This is how silk fibre is produced.
