Colostrum is the first milk produced by female mammals after parturition. It is rich in IgA antibodies. The antibodies in colostrum are transferred from the mother’s blood to the colostrum and protect the newborn against disease-causing pathogens that it may encounter. This passive immunity helps to protect the newborn until its own immune system becomes fully functional.
Normal milk has higher concentration of lactose compared to colostrum.
