Combustion is the process by which oxygen reacts with a fuel to release energy.
A chemical process where a substance reacts rapidly with oxygen and gives off heat and light is known as combustion. Basically it is the reaction between fuel (hydrocarbon) and oxygen. The original substance is known as the fuel, and the source of oxygen is called the oxidizer. The fuel can be solid, liquid, or gas, while for aeroplane propulsion the fuel is generally a liquid. For example, burning of magnesium ribbon, burning of wood etc.
