Detailed Solution

Commanding Officer Norgate persuaded Sitaram Pandey to write his memoirs.
Subedar Sitaram Pandey was urged to write his autobiography after retirement by his commanding officer, Norgate. He finished it in Awadhi in 1861, and Norgate had it published under the title From Sepoy to Subedar after translating it into English. Sitaram Pandey was enlisted in the Bengal Native Army in 1812 as a sepoy. Even though his son was a rebel and was slain by the British in front of him, he assisted the British in quelling the uprising. He helped Lt. Gen. J. T. Norgate retake Lucknow from the rebels.
