Detailed Solution

Commercial or port towns refer to those areas which are important centres of commercial activities.
A town with a harbour by the water or river is called a port. Due to the products found in that area or because of its proximity to ports or essential trade routes, a commercial town developed there. There were two different kinds of commercial and trading towns: port towns and inland trading towns. Port towns are areas that are significant hubs of commercial activity where goods can be bought and sold. Towns close to the sea are hubs of economic activity where goods can be traded via maritime routes. There were port towns, administrative hubs, commercial centres known for handicrafts, and temple towns between the eighth and the eighteenth centuries.
