Conservatives wanted no or slow change in society.
Conservatives supported enduring cultural as well as traditional beliefs. They were the royalty and nobility's supporters. They thought that there should be royal and noble privileges. They argued that society should undergo progressive reform in the wake of the French Revolution. It aims to protect national interests and places a strong emphasis on American nationalism, harsh law and order procedures, and social conservatism (the family as a place of refuge and a source of identity). It also opposes illegal border crossings and is in favor of laissez-faire which means free market economic policy. To put it simply, Conservatives favored a gradual transition in society by the nineteenth century. They had the opinion that change should be effected while honoring the past.
