The people and a set of beliefs that supported and gave more importance to traditional practices such as monarchy and nobility and wanted a gradual change in the society were known as conservatives. It was believed by the conservatives that it is important for the monarchy and church to exist, but after the French revolution, they said that gradual changes should be brought into the society. They soon realised that the strengthening of the traditional institutions, such as monarchy, can be done through modernisation, and returning to the pre-revolutionary days of the society was not required. This resulted in a state power that was more effective and stronger.
