Consider a body initially at rest. A force of $90\mathrm{N}$ is applied to the body towards the right side while another force of $150\mathrm{N}$ is applied towards the left side. Calculate the net force on the body and the direction of the net force.

Here, the forces are exerted in the opposite direction.

Net Force = Force towards the left side - Force towards the right side

$F_{\text{net }}=F_1-F_2$ (here we are considering the left side as positive and the right side as negative) 
$=150 \mathrm{N}-90 \mathrm{N}=60 \mathrm{N}$

$F_{\text{net }}=60 N$
The direction of the net force is left (As a larger amount of force is applied on the left side of the body).
