Work done by frictional force depends upon the path followed by the object. Also when a body makes a round trip under the action of frictional force, its kinetic energy decreases. So frictional force is non-conservative force. Maximum static friction is more than kinetic friction but not any static friction. Friction in many  cases support the motion.
