The given statement is true. Most large-scale industries were located in Bengal and Bombay during the colonial period.
The first cotton mill came up in Bombay in 1854, and four mills started functioning within two years. Around half of the factory was concentrated in Bombay and Calcutta during the colonial period. At the same time, jute mills were also set up in different parts of Bengal. Around World War I, a few daring large-scale industrial ventures were launched, the most notable of which were by Jamsetjee Tata in Bombay and Seth Hukumchand in Calcutta.
