Though Mahatma Gandhi devised the Non-cooperation and Civil Disobedience Movement, they are very different from each other in every aspect. For example, in the area of participation, the Muslim community participated enthusiastically in the Non-Cooperation Movement of 1921 because it supported the Khilafat issue. However, by the time the Civil Disobedience Movement was launched in 1930, an atmosphere of distrust and suspicion had grown between the Muslim and Hindu communities, which resulted in the community's limited participation.
