Contour ploughing, terrace farming, strip cropping and afforestation are the measures for soil conservation.
Soil is an important resource for the growth of crops, plants, trees and forests. A fertile soil means higher production, but due to natural and human processes, soil quality degrades and leads to soil erosion, where the top fertile layer of soil is stripped off by the wind, water and human activities like deforestation, overgrazing, construction and mining etc. Thus soil conservation is important, and various measures can be taken, such as
1)      Contour Ploughing- Ploughing along the contour lines can decelerate water flow down the slopes.
2)      Terrace farming- Cutting out steps on the slopes restricts soil erosion.
3)      Strip Cropping- Dividing large fields with grass strips between crops to break the force of the wind.
4)      Afforestation- Planting more trees to prevent the soil from getting eroded. Rows of trees help create shelter and break the wind.
