Up to the seventeenth century, they began to enlarge their realm from Agra and Delhi in the latter half of the sixteenth century. Nearly the entire subcontinent was under their hands. They imposed the concept of governance and the administrative system. As a result, they outlasted their time in power and left behind a political legacy that following subcontinental emperors could not ignore. In contrast to their forebears, the Mughals built a vast empire and achieved what had previously been thought conceivable for only brief periods. From Agra and Delhi in the second half of the 16th century, they ruled practically the whole subcontinent by the beginning of the 17th. They imposed administrative systems and governing ideologies that survived their authority, establishing a political legacy that future subcontinental emperors could not ignore.
