Convection only occurs in fluids i.e liquid and gases because in convection molecules themselves move to transfer heat from one place to another. It is possible in liquids and gases but not in solids because in solids molecules are tightly bound with each other. Solid molecules can vibrate but they cannot move to transfer heat.
