The 1st step of glycolysis is the conversion of glucose to glucose 6 phosphate with the help of the enzyme hexokinase. This step is irreversible.

Phosphofructokinase is known to convert fructose-6-phosphate to fructose-1,6-bisphosphate.

Aldolase breakdown fructose 1,6 bisphosphate to glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate and dihydroxy acetone phosphate.

Enolase converts 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenol pyruvate.
