Detailed Solution

Coriolis force deflects the winds entering the northern hemisphere to its right.
The Coriolis force is an apparent force that exists due to the rotation and tangential velocity of the Earth. The Coriolis force results in the deflection of winds entering the northern and southern hemispheres. The winds are deflected to their right in the Northern hemisphere and to the left in the Southern hemisphere. The southwest monsoons causing rainfall in India originate in the southern hemisphere and move towards the Equator. These winds get deflected to their right on entering the northern hemisphere, thus becoming northeast winds. Since they seem to originate from the southwest of the Indian subcontinent, they are called southwest monsoons.
