Court poet of Samudragupta is Harisena. Harisena was the court poet of Samudragupta. Harisena recorded all the life events of Samudragupta. He was a Sanskrit poet and government minister. His writings demonstrated the sophistication of kavya (poetry), which existed throughout the Gupta empire. His most famous poem, written in the valour of Samudragupta, is inscribed on a pillar in Allahabad known as Prayag Prashasti, penned in 345 C.E. He was also the chief minister of Samudragupta and had an interest in playing the lute with him. Despite his political affiliations, he was best known as a poet.
