Czarina Alexandra was a princess of Russia.
Alexandra Feodorovna, Princess of Alix Hesse and Rhine, was Empress of Russia as the wife of Emperor Nicholas II. They were married on November 26, 1894, until forced abdication on March 15, 1917. A favorite granddaughter of Queen Victoria of Great Britain, like her grandmother, she is one of the royal family and gave birth to Alexei Nikolaevich, Tsarevich of Russia. However, her reputation for encouraging her husband's resistance to relinquishing autocratic power and her famous belief in the Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin severely damaged her popularity. During the Russian Revolution, she and her close family were killed in Bolshevik captivity in 1918. In 2000, the Russian Orthodox Church canonized her as Saint Alexandra, the Bearer of Suffering.
