Dachigam in Jammu and Kashmir is a national park.
A national park is a protected area where flora and fauna are preserved along with their natural environment. Dachigam National Park in Jammu and Kashmir covers an area of 141 square kilometres east of Dal lake. Declared a national park in 1981, Dachigam is situated in the western Himalayas. It has varying altitudes and is divided into uneven regions based on the terrain. This includes grasslands with gentle slopes to rocky cliffs. Snow leopard, an endangered species, is the speciality of this protected area. Jackal, Hill Fox, Otter, Himalayan black and brown bears, and Musk deer are some animal species in this region. Wallcreeper, Black bulbul, and Cinnamon sparrow are some bird species. The flora is diverse, with grasslands, meadows, coniferous trees, and scrub vegetation.
