Define Cytoplasm

Cytoplasm is the jelly-like substance present inside the cell that holds and supports the cell’s organelles.

Cytoplasm fills the space between the cell membrane and the nucleus. It is made up of water, salts, and various organic molecules. It plays a key role in chemical reactions, transportation of materials, and maintaining the cell’s shape. The cytoplasm includes the cytosol (liquid part) and organelles like mitochondria, ribosomes, and endoplasmic reticulum.

Functions of Cytoplasm:

• Provides a medium for chemical reactions
• Helps in transport of materials within the cell
• Maintains the cell’s internal environment

Without cytoplasm, the cell cannot function or survive.
