Detailed Solution

  • Lysis  - Breaking of bacterial cell wall by viral encoded lysozyme is called as lysis. Bacteria are lysed because of breakage in cell wall.
  • Burst size  -  Average number of viral particles released at the end of lytic cycle from single bacterium is called burst size. It usually ranges between 50-200/cell. The released phage particles infect other susceptible cells in the vicinity and the multiplication cycle is repeated.
