Here, we need to define the two basic kinds of data i.e. primary data and secondary data.
The process of collecting information plays a crucial role in the analysis of statistics. After completing the process of collecting data, the data will be divided into two major parts, primary data and secondary part. This classification is done based on whether the data collected is first-hand or second-hand.
The data collected for the first time by personal experience or through evidence is called primary data. It is also called raw data or first-hand information. The secondary data is the second-data that is already collected by a person or organization.
When we take originality into consideration, the primary data is original data as it is collected for the first time by the investigator. And the secondary data is not original data because it is collected by someone else for their purpose.
Through observations, physical testing, surveys, case studies etc we can collect data. Whereas the secondary data can be accessed through sources like books, journals, government publications, census, websites, reports etc.
