Detailed Solution

Delhi College was closed down in the year 1877 by the British. Delhi college was established in 1792, which led to great intellectual flowering in subjects such as sciences and especially the Urdu language. But everything changed after the Revolt of 1857, Delhi was in the rebels’ control for 4 months, but when the British government regained control over the city, they went on a campaign of revenge and plunder. The British wanted Delhi to forget its Mughal past, so everything related to Mughal history came on their radar. Mosques were destroyed, and in 1877, Delhi college was turned into a school, eventually coming to a complete shutdown in the same year.
