Detailed Solution

Democracies do not appear to be very successful in reducing Economic inequalities.
Over the years, detailed information has been accumulated to determine the link between Democracy and economic development and inequality. On average, authoritarian governments have a somewhat better record of economic growth, i.e., 4.34 per cent. However, there is no difference when just poor Nations (4.28 per cent) are included. There is enough data to suggest that inside democracies, disparities may be quite big. In Nations such as South Africa and Brazil, the richest 20% of the population takes more than 60% of the national income, leaving less than 3% for the bottom 20%. Perhaps more than progress, democracies should be expected to minimise economic inequities.
