Detailed Solution

Depletion of the ozone layer is due to oxides of nitrogen.

Different oxides of nitrogen release in the environment when they are released from the farms, fertilizers, combustion of coal, etc. These act in the similar way as the chlorofluorocarbons when they reach the stratosphere of the atmosphere. Just like the reaction catalysed by the CFCs which release reactive chlorine that break down the ozone. These oxides get unstable when exposed to the UV rays. The reactive nitrogen atom reacts with the ozone to form the nitrogen dioxide and the diatomic oxygen molecule.

The correct answer is option A.
