Detailed Solution

The poverty line is estimated in India through minimum food requirements. The average calorie requirement in India is 2400 per person per day in rural areas. But, at 2100 per person per day in urban areas due to the lesser amount of work prevalent in cities. The earlier period calculated Rs 328 per month for a person living in rural areas while it is Rs 454 for the urban areas. A uniform standard for the poverty line is also used, calculated by the World Bank at Rs 1 per person per day.
