Plant tissues are of two types- permanent tissues and meristematic tissues.

Permanent tissues in plants are derived from meristematic tissues but have lost the ability to divide and contribute to growth.

Permanent plant tissues provide mechanical support, elasticity and flexibility to the plant. Some specialized permanent tissues like the xylem and phloem help in the transportation of material throughout the plant.

Meristematic plant tissues produce new cells and help in the growth of plants.
