Describe the process of fertilisation in human beings?

Fertilization is an important event in sexual reproduction in human beings. When the sperm comes in contact with an egg, one of the sperm fuses with the egg and forms a zygote. The process in which a sperm fuses with an egg is called fertilization.

If a sperm encounters the egg in the fallopian tube, it attempts to penetrate the egg's outer layer. Usually, only one sperm successfully enters the egg. The nucleus of the sperm fuses with the nucleus of the egg. This fusion combines the genetic material from both parents. 

The fusion of the sperm and egg nuclei results in the formation of a single cell called a zygote. This zygote contains a complete set of chromosomes from both parents.
