* In this type Euglena divides into two halves longitudinally.
* The nucleus, basal granule, chromatophores and cytoplasm undergo division.
* The nucleus divides by mitosis into two daughter nuclei.
* At first longitudinal groove develops in the middle of anterior end. This groove extends towards posterior end. Daughters are separated.
* One daughter Euglena retains parental flagella.
* Other daughter individual develops new flagella.
* Longitudinal binary fission is also known as symmetrogenic division as the two daughters are like mirror images.
